I'm trying to make a little app that loads a random item from one of several lists. The catch is that I want the lists to be stored online, where they can be easily viewed and edited.
The Intention: Regardless of where the app is being run from, it connects to the website where the lists are stored and loads them into memory.
The Reality: While it works when running in Flash (And in a test where a prototype was uploaded to the same website as the lists), Flash has rules against downloading from one website to another without permission, which I as a humble user am not likely to get. The lists cannot load, the app tries to run on non-existent information and locks up.
What I Need: A way to get around the permissions barrier so it will run normally anywhere. Failing that, some way to determine if the URLLoader has failed, so that I can revert to an embedded backup list (Have tried checking to see if it's coming back with "untitled" or "NaN," to no avail).
Apologies if this is an easy question. I'm not a coder by trade, I'm still adjusting to AS3 and this is the biggest problem I've yet to come across.

Hey guys and gals! I'm in a bit of a pinch here. I'm learning AS3 bit-by bit, and I've been trying to figure out why this code isn't working. It's a music player that selects music from a folder and the title of the song from an external XML document. Here's the code:

I am currently trying to convert a Flash AS3 project into a native Android app.
To do so, my first task is to make a login form that fires the entered username and password to an API. the data has to be sent in XML format (along with a randomly generated session key).
I have built the form in my layout and I can get the username and password when the user clicks the login button.
But what do I do now? In the AS3 project, I used a URLRequest and URLLoader to send the data to the API URL and get the feedback (which is also XML based).
I have been Googling and I think that the HTTP Post method might be what I am after, but I'm struggling to find any decent tutorials/examples, especially for my needs (most exmaples I have seen just deal with sending a username and password, where as I need to send the data as a small block of XML.

My project is in Flash Builder (Flex), built in ActionScript 3, which I'm very familiar with. It has to pass data back and forth to a MySQL database through PHP, which I am not familiar with. Currently I'm passing a command like this:

When I call an INSERT with some variables, that end up as users,5,username,password,admin,course,instructor,[email protected],password,true,0,0 in the pingPHP AS3 function, they get converted into an array and sent to PHP. When I put echo commands in the for loops, I get only the first value returned, username. I can echo $i and inArray[$i] in the same spots, but not the value of $columnList after the initial value is stored. I can also put an echo like "a comma should have been added" in the if statement within that for loop, but if I echo $columnList after the code to add the comma, it's just the first value.
There is probably a very simple solution here, but everything I've found through Google and the PHP manual suggests that this would work. I've tried different variations on concatination, using only single quotes, only double quotes, mixing them, even combining where all of my echo's would be into a single variable and echoing that once.
Please let me know what I'm doing wrong, and if there's anything I could be doing better. Thank you!
EDIT: Well, I figured it out. Apparently you can't concatenate an empty string. That's... pretty fucking retarded.

so I got a project from a client that was written bay another programmer in AS2 (don't know why) but they want to add tracking to button clicks. the tracking code is in AS3 and I need assistance converting it to AS2 cause my brain is totally fried right now after a massive project load all week.
